A new restaurant with cocktails, sandwiches, entrées and more has made its debut in a popular area in Columbia.

Melrose Market, which describes itself as a spot that blends “the comfort of a Southern corner store with the charm of a European café,” has opened its doors at 2710 Gervais St. in the Melrose Heights neighborhood.

In its opening weeks, Melrose Market will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays. Lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., walk-in only. Dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m., reservations required. The full-service bar is available on a first come, first served basis. Reservations can be made at melrosemarketsc.com.

“We wanted one place that felt just as natural for a morning coffee as it did for dinner and drinks,” owner and managing partner Chad Elsey said in a news release. “Somewhere you could meet a client for lunch, grab a bottle of wine on your way home, or settle in for a martini with friends. As longtime neighborhood residents, we felt there was a real need for a place like that in this part of Columbia.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the community embrace it, and we’re excited to finally welcome everyone through our doors.”

Executive Chef Josh Rogerson is overseeing the menu at Melrose Market, which the restaurant said in a release is “built on familiar dishes prepared with exceptional ingredients, careful technique and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.”

The food menu at Melrose Market features a host of options. One of them is the Melrose Smash Burger, which comes with two 3.5-oz. house-ground chuck and brisket patties, white American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, house pickles, and Parabellum burger sauce on a Cristal bun.

There also is a roster of entrées on the menu, including a chicken piccata that features seared Harvestland chicken cutlet in a lemon and white wine butter pan sauce with capers, grape tomatoes and arugula over creamy orzo.

The Melrose Market menu also includes salads, flatbreads, French dip sandwiches and much more. The bar menu, meanwhile, features cocktails, spritzes, martinis, wine and more beverages.

“I’ve been fortunate to have the trust to build a menu the way I believe food should be cooked, and that means taking the extra step where it matters most,” Rogerson said in the release. “Some things are worth doing the hard way because those details shape the experience our guests have. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created, but I’m even more proud of the team that’s bringing it to life every day.”
