Downtown Columbia Japanese restaurant set to close, search for new location
After the building it operates out of was sold to clear space for a new hotel, a downtown Columbia sushi bar is looking for a new location.
Located at 1332 Assembly Street and originally opened 42 years ago, Camon Japanese Restaurant offers various types of sushi, salad and other traditional Japanese dishes.
In a July 9 social media post, ownership announced Camon would close indefinitely after a final day of food service on July 18. The post said ownership is currently searching for a new location to continue business.
In the post, the owners celebrated the restaurant’s long run and expressed their hope of finding another venue.
“It has truly been a pleasure to serve generations of families and the relationships that have blossomed from here,” the post reads. “All the best, Columbia, and hope to see you soon!”
