CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK: Lunch and learn Dec. 2 at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center Auditorium. Visitors can bring a bag lunch and join park staff present a summary of recent vegetationa nd amphibian monitoring done at the park. (803) 776-4396
MAIN STREET ICE will open 5-10 p.m. Thursday, Boyd Plaza, at the corner of Main and Hampton streets. The outdoor ice skating rink will be open until Jan. 18. Opening day price will be $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. www/columbiasc.net/calendar/1448
RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Homeschool Monday about weather warriors 10 a.m. Nov. 30. Event for children ages 5-13 will focus on how animals survive cold winter temperatures. Cost $5 per participant plus general admission. (803) 779-8717; www.riverbanks.org
RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN:Backyard Buds: Birds (are the word) 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday. Children ages 2-5 can learn about birds, including what they eat and why they sing. Cost is $6 for one child with one adult per class, not including general admission. Register for the class at riberbanks.org.

SALUDA SHOALS PARK: Holiday Lights on the River starting Wednesday 6-10 p.m. The event, running trhough Dec. 31, will feature more than 1 million holiday lights on the river on a two-mile loop of the park. Admission $15 per car, $25 per 15-passenger van or $40 per bus. Various activities also feature every night for a fee.
