Columbia outdoors calendar, Dec. 26 and beyond

COLUMBIA PARKS AND RECREATION will host a New Year’s Eve carnival 6-11 p.m. Thursday at Main and Hampton streets. The family-friendly event will feature carnival rides, inflatables, carnival games, face painting, food vendors and ice skating. Free admission. CROOKED CREEK PARK will host a candy cane hunt 3:30-4:30 p.m. today, 1098 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin. Santa and his elves will be hiding candy canes around the park for children ages 2-8. $2 fee.

MAIN STREET ICE outdoor ice skating rink will be open in Boyd Plaza, at the corner of Main and Hampton streets, throughout Jan. 18. Opening day price will be $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. www/columbiasc.net/calendar/1448

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Lights before Christmas starts 5 p.m. nightly Wednesday. Event will feature more than 1 million lights, marshmallow roasting, a bonfire and visits with Santa. $10 for adults and $8 for children 2-12. Tickets online at riverbanks.org

SALUDA SHOALS PARK: Holiday Lights on the River, 6-10 p.m., will run through Thursday, will feature more than 1 million holiday lights on the river on a two-mile loop of the park.
