CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK: Nature discovery walk 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. Learn about plant and animal life in the Congaree River floodplain. Walk is fully accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Free. (803) 776-4396. nps.gov/cong

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Backyard Buds: Getting Squirrely 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday. Children ages 2-5 can learn about the lives of one of the most common animals in the country while doing wildlife spotting. Cost is $6 per child with one adult, plus general admission. RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Family on Safari: Winter Wonderland 6 p.m. Friday-9 a.m. Saturday. Children ages 5 and older and adults can stay overnight to learn about how animals survive during the coldest time of year. Cost is $45, and admission included in that price. RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Free Fridays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays through February. Richland County and Lexington County residents can receive free admission to the zoo and garden every Friday with a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.
