Columbia outdoors calendar, Jan. 17 and beyond

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK: Nature discovery walk 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. Learn about plant and animal life in the Congaree River floodplain. Walk is fully accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Free. (803) 776-4396. nps.gov/cong

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Discovery Day: Daring Dragons 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Children ages 2-5 can learn about the largest lizard on ear, the Komodo dragon. Cost is $6 per child with one adult, plus general admission. Register at riverbanks.org. (803) 779-8717

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Boy Scout Overnight: Nigh Creatures 6:45 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m Saturday. Children ages five and older can join Boy Scout troops to dispel common myths about nocturnal animals. Program reserved for males only. Cost is $45 per participant. Register at riverbanks.org.

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Free Fridays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays through February. Richland County and Lexington County residents can receive free admission to the zoo and garden every Friday with a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.
