Columbia outdoors calendar, Jan. 23 and beyond

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK: Nature discovery walk 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. Learn about plant and animal life in the Congaree River floodplain. Walk is fully accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Free. (803) 776-4396. nps.gov/cong

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Discovery Day: Electrifying Eels 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Children ages 2-5 can learn more about electric eels. Cost is $6 per child with one adult, plus general admission. Register at riverbanks.org. (803) 779-8717

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Homeschool Monday: Seasons of the Serengeti 10 a.m. Monday. Children ages 5-13 can learn about the serengeti plains of Africa, including lions, elephants, wildebeest, zebra and antelope.. Cost is $5 per participant plus general admission. Register at www.riverbanks.org.

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Free Fridays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays through February. Richland County and Lexington County residents can receive free admission to the zoo and garden every Friday with a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.
