Columbia outdoors calendar, Feb. 14 and beyond

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK: Nature discovery walk 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. Learn about plant and animal life in the Congaree River floodplain. Walk is fully accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Free. (803) 776-4396. nps.gov/cong

GREATER COLUMBIA ROSE SOCIETY: Rose pruning workshop 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 27 at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital’s rose garden, 5 Richland Medical Park Drive.

GREENVIEW PARK: Black History Extravaganza 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, 6700 David St. Event will feature live entertainment, exhibitors and more. Tickets are $5 per person and are available at any City of Columbia recreation center or at the Parks and Recreation Department Administration Office, 1111 Parkside Drive. Lunch is provided. RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Orchids on the Riverbanks Festival 9 a.m-5 p.m. today. The South Carolina Orchid Society, Ikebana International Chapter 182 and Riverbanks Botanical Garden will present hundreds of blooming orchids and teach visitors growing advice. Entry is free with general admission.

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Free Fridays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays through February. Richland County and Lexington County residents can receive free admission to the zoo and garden every Friday with a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.
