Beaufort shelter: Puppy that suffered neglect dies
A dog brought into the Beaufort County Animal Shelter on Thursday afternoon that was showing severe signs of neglect has died, it was reported Monday.
The pit bull puppy, named Calypso, underwent emergency surgery Thursday to have her eye removed. The surgery went well, but it was discovered she had parvo, animal control director Tallulah Trice said Friday. The virus, characterized by vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss, caused her death, according to an animal control Facebook post Monday.
A woman brought in the approximately 8-week-old puppy after she got it from a breeder who was going to kill it because of the eye problem. She wouldn't give any information on the breeder.
Trice has said animal control is conducting an investigation, which could lead to rescuing more animals from the litter the puppy came from and finding the person responsible.
