A Lexington Siberian Husky won high honors Tuesday at the Westminster dog show but did not advance to the best of the sporting dogs competition.

Three-year-old Lyric placed second among nearly 40 females in the Siberian Husky breed judging, according to an email from Katie Fleming, who owns the dog with husband Reid and Georgia residents Liz Demartino and Lindsey Morin of Trillium Blue Kennel.

Two champion dogs from Beaufort and Jasper counties that won their best of breed competitions Monday – Jango, a Spanish Water dog from Ridgeland co-owned by Faith Ott and Janet Rahn, and GrandCru Gianconda, a greyhound from Bluffton owned by Melanie Steele – did not win their groups, so they did not advance to Tuesday’s best in show.
