James Lee “Jim” Alexander and Lenora Nelson Alexander of Irmo recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married June 30, 1967, in Laurens.

Their children are James Lee (Lindsey) Alexander II of Gaston and Brandon Lewis (Jessica) Alexander of Richlands, North Carolina.

They have five grandchildren: Adelle, Savannah, Jack, Matthew and Michele Alexander.

“We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on the beautiful island of St. Lucia at the Sandals Halcyon Beach Resort,” Lenora writes. “We renewed our wedding vows on June 24, which was just magical. … The pastor’s words, ‘you may kiss your bride’ were as thrilling as that day in 1967.”

Twelve couples the Alexanders met at the resort attended their “re-tie the knot” ceremony. The other couples – including newlyweds on their honeymoon and couples celebrating fifth, 10th and 32nd anniversaries – clapped and snapped photos as Lenore walked down the aisle to a gazebo overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

Q: What do you wish you’d known your first year of marriage?

A: We wished we’d know that the spats we had were not important – but our love for each other was the most important part of our marriage.

Q: Tell us about a favorite moment in your marriage.

A: Our favorite moment in our marriage was when the Pastor said, “You may kiss your bride.” A magical moment.
