G.C. and Bertha Robinett celebrate 70th anniversary
G.C. and Bertha Robinett will soon celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 6, 1947, at First Baptist Church in Columbia.
Bertha, a native of Spartanburg, moved to Columbia in September 1946 when she began her 23 years of serving as a secretary with the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
G.C., a native of Columbia, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean conflict. His 37-year professional career focused on municipal government, including serving as finance director for the city of Columbia.
The couple met at First Baptist Church in February 1947. Together they have faithfully served God and His church. Bertha was active in the deaf ministry as an interpreter. G.C., a life deacon, has also served on numerous committees.
Their children are Nancy (Steve) Parrish of Stafford, Virginia, and Rowena (Rod) Funderburk of Irmo. They have four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild due this month.
They celebrated their anniversary with family and Laurel Crest Retirement Community friends.
