Melvin and Terry Gleaton celebrate 50th anniversary

Melvin and Terry Gleaton of South Congaree recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 6, 1967, at Andrew Chapel Methodist Church in Swansea.

The couple met at a skating rink in Orangeburg and married 2 1/2 years later. They have a daughter, Myra Hawn; a grandson, Christian Hawn; and a great-granddaughter, Riley Hawn.

They celebrated their anniversary with an Aug. 5 party given by their daughter. About 100 family members and friends gathered at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church in South Congaree.

The Gleatons are Ebenezer members involved in many of its activities. They love camping with family and friends, meeting new people, fishing and USC football.

The secret to a 50-year marriage, they say, is “faith and trust – faith in God above and trust in each other.”
