George and Karen McConnell celebrate 50th anniversary
George Truett McConnell Jr. and Karen Sims McConnell of Chapin recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Dec. 16, 1967, at the W.R. Aldrich Chapel at First Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Both were graduates of Louisiana State University. George was a registered architect in Maryland and South Carolina, and Karen was a high school French teacher. Both retired in 1999 and moved from Annapolis, Maryland, to their home on Lake Murray.
Their son, Michael Austin McConnell, lives in Charlotte with his wife, Lisa, and their two sons, Austin Michael and Christian Ryan.
The family all enjoyed celebrating the event on a Thanksgiving cruise to the Bahamas.
“The most wonderful thing we decided to do was to share our life and hearts with each other,” George writes.
