Bill and Doris Manley celebrate 70th anniversary
William K. “Bill” and Doris W. Manley met at the Carolina Roller Rink in 1947 while Bill was in advanced training at Fort Jackson. It was there that they fell over each other while skating and then fell in love! They were married Jan. 10, 1948.
They are the proud parents of Brenda Martino of East Brunswick, New Jersey; Susan (Bobby) Carpenter and Deborah Burrows, both of Columbia; William (Prisha) Manley Jr. of Lexington; the late Michael Manley and the late Mitchell Manley. They are also the proud “Banny” and “Bandaddy” to nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Bill served six years, seven months active-duty in U.S. Army, then retired after 32 years with the S.C. Army National Guard.
Doris retired from the S.C. Tax Commission (now the S.C. Department of Revenue) after 26 years of service.
Doris and Bill are involved in community and senior organizations. They are active members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and enjoy many activities with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doris and Bill celebrated their anniversary with family and friends, attending Mass with a reception following the service on Jan. 7 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
