In her own words

Q. How did you meet?

A. Spencer had just moved back to Columbia from Charlotte and joined our local running group. We met after a group run and immediately hit it off.

Q. When did you know your spouse was “the one”?

A. I knew he was the one because we enjoyed the same interests – running, ice cream, Gamecock football and craft beers!

Q. Tell us about the proposal.

A. I ran the Boston Marathon in 2015. Spencer and my family were there to cheer me on. After Boston, we vacationed around New England and Cape Cod. One stop was in Newport, Rhode Island, where we had lunch at Castle Hill Inn. We took a walk to the Castle Hill Lighthouse, overlooking the Narragansett Bay, when suddenly Spencer got down on one knee and proposed. There was even a photographer to capture the moment!

Q. What was your favorite part of the wedding day?

A. There were many special parts. My dad drove me to the ceremony by the pond in his 1941 Chevy sedan, and we used it for the photo backdrop. My parents used it 30 years ago at their wedding! My dad and I did a surprise dance medley choreographed by my childhood dance teacher, which was fun and the guests enjoyed. But the most fun was when the Gamecock mascot Cocky showed up. He danced with everyone and exited with us during the sparkler send off.

Q. How did you choose the wedding venue?

A. We chose to be married by Spencer’s family pastor outside at the venue so the ceremony and reception could be in one place.

Q. What was the significance of the music played during your ceremony?

A. We exited to Darius Rucker’s “True Believer.”
