Keith and Dianne Pound of Gaston recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 25, 1966, in Washington, Georgia.

Their children are Kit (Leigh) Pound of Columbia and Dr. Toya Pound (Dr. Gene Chang) of Charleston.

Their grandchildren are Laney Pound, Claire Pound, Anna Grace Chang and Ellis Chang.

Anniversary travels included a family vacation at Isle of Palms; the Dixie-Youth World Series Championship in Laurel, Mississippi; and a visit to the Hamptons in Long Island, New York.

In his own words

The year was 1966. The Supremes had a No. 1 hit, “You Can’t Hurry Love.” Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman” was a top record. The Righteous Brothers came in at No. 3 with “(You’re My) Soul and Inspiration.”

Keith was fresh out of the U.S. Navy and had a ’56 Chevy. He was inspired by The Temptations’ 1966 hit, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and talked Dianne into marrying him.

His father often told him that it was the best day’s work he had ever done!

Two years later, God blessed them with a son, Kit, and in 1970, Toya was born.

Their strong love and respect for each other and faith in God is credited for 50 wonderful years together.
