In their own words
Q: How did you meet?
A: We met while we both were living in New Orleans. Tessa had moved there to work as a visiting assistant professor at Tulane.
Q: When did you know your fiance was “the one”?
A: After Tessa had to move to accept a position at USC, we decided to try a long-distance relationship. It wasn’t long after her move that we realized life was better when we were together.
Q: Tell us about the proposal.
A: Jon accomplished a complete surprise. Tessa was with friends at a conference in Amelia Island when a call from Jon showed up on her phone. Jon was originally going to join Tessa at the beachside conference but had backed out because he had to work (or so he said). When she answered, it was, ostensibly, their dog, Atticus, on the other end of the line. He told Tessa that he and Jon were on the beach and that she should join them. Tessa headed to the usual beach spot, and Jon was there, on one knee, clad in a suit, with Atticus, a ring and champagne. Tessa enthusiastically said yes to Jon’s starlit, beachside proposal.
