One dead in SC officer-involved shooting

A man was killed after a Saturday shootout with police.

The shooting occurred early Saturday morning after multiple people called 911 after hearing gunshots, Greenville Police Lt. Alia Paramore said in a news release.

When police arrived, they found two men in the back parking lot of 1300 E. Washington St., which is less than a half-mile from the Greenville Zoo. One of the men was detained by police and the other fled inside the building, according to the release. Someone inside the building shot at police and one officer returned fire.

The Greenville News posted a picture of scene, showing the law office of W. Benjamin McClain Jr. with what appears to be multiple bullet holes in the glass on the front of the building. That man was identified as W. Benjamin McClain III, 25, according to the Greenville News.

Police sent a robot inside the building where it discovered the man who fled inside the building had died. According to the news release, no police officers were injured in the shootout.
