Carter named to SCRA executive committee

Fred Carter, president of Francis Marion University, has been appointed to the South Carolina Research Authority’s executive committee. The authority is a state-chartered organization charged with growing the state’s innovation economy and creating jobs. The nine-member committee is comprised of the presidents of Clemson University, the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina at Columbia and appointees of the governor and legislative leaders. Carter has served as Francis Marion president for 17 years. Previously, he served as the chief of staff to former Gov. Mark Sanford, executive director of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board, senior executive assistant to former Gov. Carroll Campbell and the chairman of the political science department at the College of Charleston.
