New restaurant planned for Huger Street in the Vista
A new restaurant could sprout soon in a 67-year-old warehouse in the Vista.
Owner Charles Brooks is asking Columbia officials for an exemption from parking requirements as part of his plan to convert half of the 5,880-square-foot building at 1102 Huger St. into a new spot for dining.
He declined Friday to discuss the type of restaurant envisioned or how soon it could open. Those details aren’t included in his request for the parking exemption.
The site is near the State Museum adjacent to a major intersection of roads used both by shoppers and commuters.
Several warehouses in the downtown area nearby have become restaurants, stores and residences. Brooks’ request for an exemption from parking requirements goes before the city Board of Zoning Appeals on June 13.
The exemption is necessary because the building occupies the entire lot, with parking available on an adjoining lot, according to his application.
