Charleston to Seattle flights coming

CHARLESTON Starting this fall, Charleston International Airport will offer non-stop flights to Seattle on Alaska Airlines, the airport announced Tuesday.

Flights to Tacoma International Airport are to begin Nov. 16. Introductory fares on Seattle’s largest airline start at $139 and $159 and are on sale now.

“We are excited because this is our first West Coast connection,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., director of airports for the Charleston County Aviation Authority.

Grand Strand canal dredging delayed

NORTH MYTLE BEACH There’s been a delay in a more-than $16 million project to deepen canals in North Myrtle Beach that have not been dredged in 60 years.

Media outlets report the project was to have started this fall, but has now been delayed until the fall of 2016. The problem is that sand and silt from other dredging projects won’t be removed from a disposal basin in time to allow the dredging in the Cherry Grove neighborhood to begin this year.
