Hooligan’s deli in Forest Acres closes doors after 30 years
Three decades of serving sandwiches and ice cream in Forest Acres has ended with this week’s closing of Hooligan’s.
The Trenholm Plaza business posted a sign on its door and word circulated through Facebook.
A spokesman for Edens commercial real estate, which owns and operates the plaza, had no comment on the reason for the closing, but issued a written statement.
“We have no plans for the space right now, but we’ll work to find a retailer that is just as important to the fabric of Trenholm Plaza, Forest Acres and Columbia,” it stated. “We’re sad to see Hooligan’s go. They’ve been a great piece of the community for 30 years and we know that they will be missed.”
Edens is major shopping center developer on the East Coast and in Texas. Formerly Edens & Avant, it was founded in Columbia and has its financial and human resources arm here.
In recent years, Edens has been replacing some of its Trenholm Plaza tenants with more national retailers.
In 2014, J.Crew and Anthropolgie opened in the former Books-A-Million and added to the area’s mix of upscale clothing and home furnishings. Regional retailer Scout & Molly’s also opened in the center, selling women’s clothing and accessories.
In early 2012, Kitty’s Hallmark left the mall after 15 years when Edens doubled its rent, store owner Frank Mogan said at the time.
Edens also recently open the Whole Foods and other upscale retailers at Cross Hill Market near the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Devine Street
