With 25,000 new jobs expected in the Charleston area during the next three years, seven colleges and universities are coming together to make sure companies have the trained workers they need.
Many of those new jobs will be in science and technology. The coalition will ensure degree programs offered at the institutions match the training needed for the new jobs, The (Charleston) Post and Courier reports.
The coalition is being formed under the direction of businesswoman Anita Zucker. It includes the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, Charleston Southern University, The Citadel, the College of Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina as well as Trident Technical College.
College of Charleston President Glenn McConnell says the goal is collaboration among colleges and universities rather than duplicating programs.
