Cable giant to create hundreds of jobs in Lexington County in multi-million investment
Hundreds of jobs are coming to the Midlands, according to South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and cable giant Spectrum.
The governor was at Spectrum’s Lexington County headquarters Tuesday when it was announced that the cable, internet and phone company is planning to hire 350 people by the end of 2022, according to a news release. The openings are for inbound sales representatives and management positions at Spectrum’s West Columbia call center, the release said.
The jobs are part of Spectrum’s more than $2 million investment to upgrade its campus at 3347 Platt Springs Road by 2023, officials said in the release. That’s about a mile from Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
“Spectrum’s decision to expand and create 350 new jobs in Lexington County is tremendous news,” state Sen. Katrina Shealy, R-Lexington, said in the release. “As we work to recover from the pandemic, there is no doubt that these kinds of opportunities will be a major economic boost for our workforce.”
Inbound sales representatives handle calls from potential and current customers from across the company’s 41-state service area, officials said. The full-time positions include a variety of shifts, and the combination of base salary, commissions and other incentives can earn employees more than $55,000 annually on average, with top performers earning $80,000 or more, according to the release.
“Our inbound sales team plays a vital role in attracting customers and matching our services with the customer’s needs,” Tony Guevara, Charter Communications’ senior vice president of inbound and outbound sales, said in the release. “We know that South Carolina offers an educated and motivated workforce. ... Now we are looking for more talented professionals with a passion for sales, who are ready to build a career as we meet the growing demand for our high-value Spectrum services.”
Those interested in applying for a job, or for more information on benefits, retirement plan and discounts on the company’s services can go to Spectrum’s Careers site.
Spectrum has more than 3,100 employees in South Carolina, including 1,000-plus at the West Columbia campus, Guevara said.
“The 350 jobs Spectrum is adding, coupled with competitive salaries and benefits, is a welcomed lift for our workforce in Lexington County,” Lexington County Chairman Scott Whetstone said in the release. “We celebrate Spectrum’s expansion.”
