Dollar Tree, Inc. is investing nearly $105 million and eventually offering 400 jobs with a distribution center along I-85 that will straddle Cherokee and Spartanburg counties, it was announced Monday.
Construction is to start this month on the 1.5 million-square-foot warehouse in Upstate Corporate Park. Hiring is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2016, the company said. The total investment is $104.4 million, and full employment might take five years.
The Fortune 500 company has more than 100 stores in South Carolina and other support centers in Matthews, N.C., and Chesapeake, Va.
Dollar Tree operates more than 13,600 stores in 48 states and five Canadian provinces. Its stores operate under the brands of Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree Canada and Deals. The company employs more than 145,000 associates.

The state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $1.5 million grant to assist with the cost of property improvements as well as job development credits.
