Come this fall, Cross Hill Market will have a Midwood Smokehouse, a Charlotte-based restaurant that bills itself as offering down-home barbecue, a Columbia commercial brokerage firm announced Tuesday.

The restaurant will occupy the space of the former American Roadside Burger location and construction will start soon, Edens said in a statement. The 3,200-square-foot restaurant at the retail center off Fort Jackson Boulevard will seat some 120, including a patio, the owners said through their public relations firm.

Seasoned pit masters keep true to traditional barbecue plates in an around-the-clock smoking schedule, Edens said. The restaurant incorporates those flavors into salads, sandwiches, burgers and tacos.

Midwood Smokehouse, which joins a range of new businesses in east Columbia, is expected to employ 50 workers, London Misher public relations said.

Commercial real estate firm Edens welcomed Frank Scibelli, founder of FS Food Group, which operates Midwood Smokehouse.

“Frank has created concepts such as Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar & Cantina 1511 that have a strong commitment in maintaining scratch kitchens using fresh, quality ingredients,” Lyle Darnall, Edens; managing director, said. “He continues to maintain that legacy with Paco’s Tacos & Tequila, Mama Ricotta’s, Midwood Smokehouse and Plate Perfect Catering.

“We are excited to introduce and share a restaurant of Midwood Smokehouse’s caliber with the Columbia community,” Darnall said.
