Alcohol distributor opens 400k square foot West Columbia facility
A major alcohol distributor has begun operations in West Columbia.
Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits started operations earlier this month at its 412,000-square-foot warehouse in Lexington County’s Saxe Gotha Industrial Park on 12th Street Extension.
The state-of-the-art facility will allow the distributor to expand its operations across the state, the company said in a press release, with space to add another 300,000 square feet on its 85-acre West Columbia campus.
The company invested $80 million into the new facility, which has storage space for 1.39 million cases and specialized cold rooms for shipments that need to be kept cool. The site will employ 225 people, The State previously reported.
“This new facility represents a major investment in Southern Glazer’s future in South Carolina,” Steve Baker, Southern Glazer’s executive vice president and general manager for South Carolina, said in the news release. “It was purpose-built to enhance service for our customers, support our supplier partners and create an efficient, modern workplace for our team members, while positioning our business for continued growth across the state.”
The company also praised Lexington County officials for helping the wine distributor acquire the site in a county-owned industrial park.
Southern Glazer’s new facility is located in an industrial corridor south of Cayce that runs between Interstate 26 and Interstate 77. The warehouse’s neighbors include Nephron Pharmaceuticals and an Amazon distribution center.
