Charlotte Douglas holds its spot as world’s seventh-busiest airport
Charlotte Douglas International Airport remained the seventh-busiest airport in the world last year based on takeoffs and landings.
In 2014, the airport had 545,178 takeoffs and landings, a 2 percent decrease from 2013, according to an Airports Council International report released Monday.
Chicago ranked as the busiest airport in the world based on takeoffs and landings, while Atlanta was the busiest based on passengers.
Charlotte Douglas ranks higher on takeoffs and landings than passengers because many of its flights use smaller, regional jets. American Airlines operates its second-largest hub in Charlotte.
It doesn’t rank in the top 10 busiest airports in the world based on passengers. In the United States, Charlotte Douglas ranks as the eighth busiest based on passenger traffic.
Last year, 44.3 million passengers visited Charlotte Douglas, the largest volume in the airport’s history.
