Columbia set to get four new hotels

Downtown Columbia is set to get four new hotels.

Hotelier Rick Patel is converting the old Clarion Hotel property on Gervais Street in the Vista into two, side-by-hotels – a Hilton Garden Inn that’s being built from the ground up and a Homewood Suites 2 that will locate in the former Clarion building.

Lexington hotelier Raj Champaneri, along with Marcus and Rita Munse of Columbia, is building a five-story, 108-room Aloft hotel at the corner of Lady and Lincoln streets that’s connected to the Washington Street parking garage.

Aloft is a spinoff of the Starwood company’s trendy W hotels. Champaneri’s Lexington Hospitality firm also owns the Homewood Suites hotel on Greystone Boulevard and the Comfort Suites in Lexington.

A hotel also is envisioned for the Kline City Center project along Huger Street at Gervais, although the hotel brand has not been revealed and work on the project has not started.
