SRS contractor to pay $3.8 M fine for overcharging government
A contractor at the Savannah River Site has agreed to pay a $3.8 million fine to settle allegations that it made false claims for reimbursement of employee moving expenses, US attorney Bill Nettles said in a news release.
Since 2002, Parsons Government Services, headquartered in Pasadena, California, has been the primary construction contractor at the Department of Energy’s Salt Waste Processing Facility Project at the Savannah River Site in Aiken County.
Parsons’ DOE contract allows for the reimbursement of payments it made to eligible employees “for moving, meals, lodging and transportation expenses” when they moved to Aiken to work on the project.
Parsons was required to make sure employees met eligibility requirements but, according to the government, failed to do so. The company was accused of knowingly mischarging DOE for “ineligible or inflated short-term employee relocation costs” that it was not entitled to.
