Midlands people & achievements: Will Johnson

Will Johnson, a shareholder in Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd in Columbia recently received the Past Presidents’ Award for Best National Report in the field of tax law at the International Association of Young Lawyers Annual Congress in London.

Johnson’s report addressed the complex income tax situations of athletes and entertainers who compete or perform in foreign countries. Most athletes and entertainers who receive more than minimal payments for competing and performing in the United States are subject to federal income tax and possibly state income tax. Approximately 700 people from 58 countries attended the annual event.

Johnson is chairman of the law firm’s statewide manufacturing industry team and practices in the areas of tax and economic incentive matters.
