Shop Around: Walmart Neighborhood Market opens today

Walmart opened doors at its newest Midlands location this morning in the form of a Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3603 Broad River Rd.

The 41,000-square-foot location features a full grocery, as well as a full-service pharmacy (with a drive through window) and fuel station. Unlike traditional 24-hour Walmarts, the Neighborhood Market will be open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Like other Neighborhood Markets, the Broad River location is one-fifth the size of a Walmart Supercenter and carries more organic and natural foods as well as a selection of locally sourced meats via Harvin Choice Meats in Sumter.

Walmart introduced the Neighborhood Market concept in 1998 in response to the success of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods stores. There are now more than 650 Neighborhood Markets nationwide. The Broad River Road location will employ 105 associates.
