Bowers named chief executive of health information exchange

Wyman F. Bowers has been named the first chief executive officer of South Carolina Health Information Partners, the South Carolina Health Information Exchange. Bowers is the former chief operating officer for Midlands Orthopedics. Before that, he was the associate general counsel for the South Carolina Medical Association. He has both a juris doctor degree and a master of business administration degree from the University of South Carolina. In his new position, Bowers will run all operations of the exchange in conjunction with the board of directors, including convening stakeholders and acting as the spokesman for organization. S.C. Health Information Partners allows healthcare professionals to access and securely share a patient’s medical information electronically. The exchange began as a state agency and has transitioned into a private entity.
