A proposal to open a liquor store at 1237 Washington St. has been set forth to the City of Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals.

The proposal was submitted by Low Spirit Solutions LLC which is owned by Julia and Sonny Narang. The Narangs have attempted to open a liquor store on Washington Street twice before but both of those requests--the most recent of which was for a space inside Arcade Mall--were denied by the zoning board. Proposals for liquor stores require a special hearing and a zoning exemption from the Board of Zoning Appeals. The board is scheduled to hold the Narang’s hearing at 10 a.m. on Aug. 8.

The current request would have the store opening in the 1,600-square-foot space on Washington Street that was most recently home to M Fresh restaurant.
