Columbia, Lexington Target stores to offer same-day home delivery
Beginning Thursday, Columbia and Lexington Target shoppers can order items online from their local Target store and have the items delivered to their door the same day.
The service is offered by Shipt – known mainly for its online grocery marketplace home-delivery services – and applies to groceries, home essentials, electronics and other products. Columbia and Lexington are two of 18 markets across five Southern states that has been selected for the service. Leading up to the expansion, Shipt plans to hire more than 4,000 shoppers throughout the Southeastern U.S. to be a part of the team responsible for the deliveries.
“We are entering a new era of same-day delivery here at Shipt, marked by a sweeping expansion with Target,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. “Our partnership with Target will now allow for customers across the country to enjoy the benefits of shopping Target’s wide assortment with the personal touch of home delivery offered by Shipt.”
To celebrate the addition of Target to the Shipt marketplace, new Shipt members who sign up prior to expansion will receive an annual membership for $49 (regularly $99).
Through the partnership, Target plans to offer same-day delivery from approximately half of stores by early 2018. The majority of Target stores will offer the service by the 2018 holiday season, and by the end of 2019, same-day delivery will include all major product categories at Target.
