Shop Around: West Columbia food truck court to open in two weeks
Three more food trucks have agreed to be part of the West Columbia HEMI Food Truck Court, which is set to open for business at 728 Meeting St. in just two weeks.
LaBrasca’s Pizza, Grill on Wheels and Brian Freeze are the most recent vendors to join the food court — a vision of area resident Christina Suvarna.
Suvarna developed her idea last year and approached West Columbia business owners Bill and April McEntire with the idea. The McEntires own the vacant lot next to their business, Outdoor Wood Furniture at 718 Meeting St., and agreed to lease it to Suvarna for the food truck court.
In January, the West Columbia City Council gave final approval to amending the city's zoning laws to allow the food truck court at the location.
“I truly didn't know just how much something like this was needed until all of the food truck vendors started contacting me,” Suvarna said. “Those who have only thought of owning a food truck or trailer but have been waiting for the right time.”
The food court will include tables, chairs, shelters, parking, lighting and restrooms and will rotate up to 10 food trucks at a time serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
In addition to Grill on Wheels and Brian Freeze, four other food trucks have committed to being vendors at the food court when it opens March 14: The Belgian Waffle Truck, Eric’s Que Barbecue, Carolina Cookin’, and CupSide Down Cafe and Bistro. LaBrasca’s will join the food court in April, Suvarna said.
