Main Street Public House grand opening Thursday
Downtown Columbia will officially welcome a new restaurant and entertainment venue when Main Street Public House holds its grand opening on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 1556 Main St.
While Main Street Public House is a sister restaurant to the well-known King Street Public House in Charleston, there are some significant differences between the two, according to Main Street general manager John Stubing.
"King Street is our original location but where that one is more of a sports bar and night life-oriented, we're more of a casual dining spot with night life," Stubing said. "They have a lot of TVs and wings and nachos on the menu. We have a more refined menu."
Sitting at the corner of Main and Taylor Streets, the 6,000-square-restaurant features in-house, freshly made soups and salads such as the blackberry apricot with a house-made apricot and poppy seed vinaigrette. Executive chef Russell Eckley also serves up New York style pizzas and sandwiches such as those on the slider trio featuring braised pork belly with candied spicy Thai chili glaze, smoked chicken with Palmetto Gold barbecue sauce and brisket with Southern slaw. The restaurant also has 25 beers on draft and a full bar.
Main Street Public House will also feature live music each weekend, starting out with the Nick Clyburn Band this Friday, Aug. 5.
The venue held a soft opening last week but official grand opening festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 4. Main Street Public House plans to be open daily 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
