Four years ago, Wayne Powers of Wayne Powers Salon on Sunnyside Drive started an apothecary line of hair care featuring seven products.

Since then, the company has continued to grow its line creating products like Gelato Sea Salt Hair and Body Cleanser and other products comprised of argan oil, shea butter, honey and rose absolute. Powers then began to add goods such as Southern-inspired handmade candles like "A Pat of Butter", cold-pressed soaps and bath and body products--all of which have become "huge staples" of the product line, he said.

"Once I found a company to customize soaps for us I knew the product line had taken a turn," Powers said. "This turn happened to be a bridge into creating bath and body products from our power washes to our shea butter sugar scrub called Sugar Daddy to our cult following lotion called Orange You Lucky."

Today, the company stands strong with over 100 SKUs of product.

As a result of the apothecary product line's success, two weeks ago, Powers expanded his business with the opening of Wayne Powers Apothecary and Salon at 2321 Devine St. On Aug. 15, he plans to go public with a new website for the wares (waynepowersapothecary.com).

"We started out as just a salon trying our best to give Columbia the best customer experience anyone could have," Powers said. " And now with our new and larger apothecary at Devine Street we are able to more fully realize our dream of creating wonderful products to bring beauty into people's lives."
