Long-time West Columbia favorite restaurant Compton's Kitchen has closed the doors to its Lexington location at 5343 Sunset Blvd.

Perry Compton opened the original Compton's Kitchen on D Avenue in West Columbia in 1977. As the restaurant grew in popularity--mainly due to its buttermilk biscuit following--Compton moved the eatery to Highway 378 at the Gervais Street Bridge and then to its third and current location at 1118 B Ave. in West Columbia in the Triangle City area.

Martha Cooke took ownership of the restaurant in 2000 and opened the Lexington location in March 2013.

There are no plans to close the West Columbia location which continues to serve breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and breakfast on Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon.
