Two SC residents and a New York woman ID’d in collision with Amtrak train
Two North Charleston residents and a New York woman were killed on train tracks in North Charleston when an SUV they were in was struck by an Amtrak train.
The collision happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Remount Road in North Charleston.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified them as Danielle Branton, 29; Reshana Lambright, 32; and Tiasia Newton, 22, from Syracuse, New York.
“All victims died on scene off of Remount Road as a result of blunt force trauma,” Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said in a statement.
One other person believed to be in the vehicle was transported to the hospital. Authorities have not identified that person or released their medical condition.
On her Facebook page, Newton says she lives in Miami. Her family members wrote of her love for her family including a son and how much they will miss her.
“Today has been a horrible dream that I’m still trying to wake up from…… I’m so heart broken,” one said.
Her intro says, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”
The four victims were found near what North Charleston firefighters and police believed was a Nissan SUV. It was so heavily damaged by the train it was difficult to identify it. Authorities believe they were in the vehicle when the collision occurred.
The train was Amtrak’s auto train, which goes from Lorton, Virginia, and Sanford, Florida. No one on the train was injured and the train continued on after several hours. There were 474 passengers on board.
The story has been edited to correct Tiasia Newton’s age.
