A South Carorlina congressman says he will go into quarantine after contact with a fellow lawmaker who tested positive for coronavirus.

U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham, D-SC, said in a statement that he learned Thursday morning of his contact with the affected lawmaker and, after consulting with a doctor, decided to self-quarantine until March 27. Cunningham said he is not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and is in good health.

“I will be working from home as Congress continues its response to this public health crisis and will continue our urgent work of serving the people of the Lowcountry,” Cunningham wrote. “We are all in this together.”

Two members of Congress had tested positive for coronavirus as of Thursday morning.

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, a Florida Republican, announced Wednesday he had contracted the virus, the first known case in Congress. Rep. Ben McAdams, D-Utah, later announced that he had also tested positive.
