Who gets a stimulus check? How much will it be? A look at the coronavirus relief bill

A proposed $1 trillion GOP bill meant to soften the financial blow of coronavirus would mean extra money for millions of Americans. But who gets some? How much do they get? And who doesn’t get anything at all?

If passed, billions of dollars in government checks would be mailed out to American households.

Those funds will divvy up depending on a taxpayer’s unique financial and familial situation.

By and large, single people get the least. Anyone earning $75,000 a year or less would receive $1,200.

A married couple with combined earnings of $150,00 or under can expect a $2,400 check.

The cost of child-rearing has been taken into consideration as well, and families with children would receive $500 per kid.

People who take home a little more than $75,000 annually haven’t been left out entirely, but they do get an increasingly small piece of the money.

For every $100 an individual earns over $75,000, $5 is deducted from their stimulus check -- until the $99,000 mark is reached, at which point the $1,200 is totally gone.

Similarly, couples wouldn’t receive a cent if they’re pulling in $198,000 together.

The “Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act” stimulus package is also aimed at assisting businesses financially and bolstering the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

It’s uncertain when or even if the legislation will pass, as Republicans and Democrats have quickly reached disagreements over the proposal, CNN reported.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the plan had “virtually no input from Democrats,” and that it provides for corporate bailouts, according to CNN.
