The Moncrief Army Health Clinic at Fort Jackson is adjusting to operate at limited capacity in the face of the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to a post on its Facebook page.

Primary care for retirees and their family members is being shifted to the Moncrief Medical Home off base, according to the post. Active personnel will still be able to go there, but virtual appointments will be strongly encouraged and anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19 is urged to call the Nurse Advice Line at 800-874-2273.

Also on Friday, Fort Jackson leadership initially announced the base would close to all but mission essential personnel on March 30, but later released a statement saying changes were still being made and an announcement on veteran access to the base would come Saturday.

Two days ago, Fort Jackson officials announced the third and fourth cases of COVID-19 on base, both in the 3rd battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment.

On Thursday, Beagle said in a virtual town hall that he was unsure whether the fort would continue to receive new recruits as officials try to curb the spread of the virus, saying it was a decision for the Secretary of Defense.

Hundreds of members of the military have tested positive for the coronavirus. South Carolina has reported more than 530 confirmed cases and 13 deaths as of Friday afternoon.
