Live Q&A: MUSC doctor answers your questions about how to stay safe from coronavirus

We know you have a lot of questions about the coronavirus. The State has tried to answer as many of them as we can.

One of the experts we’ve depended on to answer the more tricky questions has been Dr. Michael Schmidt, a professor of microbiology and immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The MUSC doctor will take live questions from readers of The State between 2:30 and 3 p.m. on Friday.

Schmidt has made it his academic focus to know how best to prepare for pandemics and other disasters, especially big outbreaks of the flu — the closest cousin to COVID-19 before that disease spread across the globe this year.

To ask a question, sign up for an account on our comment section below — you’ll need to confirm your email address — and log in to your account.

During the live Q&A, you’ll be able to ask your questions in real time, vote on other readers’ questions you’d like for Schmidt to answer, and engage in conversation with other members of the community.

The State encourages thoughtful comments from a wide range of viewpoints, and we support passionate and respectful dialogue. We will not tolerate personal attacks, threats, obscenity, profanity, political campaigning or commercial promotion.

Comments in violation of these guidelines will be removed, and offending users may be suspended or banned from our platform.
