Apple reveals new iPhone as coronavirus stimulus checks arrive. Twitter users noticed
Apple revealed its latest model iPhone on Wednesday, just as coronavirus stimulus checks began arriving in people’s bank accounts -- a coincidence many Twitter users couldn’t help noticing.
The new model is the second-generation iPhone SE, and with a price tag as low as $399, it’s the most affordable phone the tech giant has brought to market in years.
Tech outlets had been speculating for months about what Apple’s latest smartphone iteration would be -- what it would look like, what features it would have, and what it would sell for, according to The Verge, and some correctly predicted an SE-like addition as far back as September.
With a starting price of $399, it’s $300 cheaper than the iPhone 11 released last year, but with much of the same internal components, The Verge reported. Though it’s not quite as powerful, and its screen isn’t as large, the price difference is enough to make some rethink purchasing decisions.
Online sales will open for the iPhone SE on Friday, and the first deliveries should begin arriving April 24, the Associated Press reported.
