SC DMV to reopen all locations. Offices to use COVID-19 social distancing guidelines

The S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles will reopen all its branches, by appointment only, weeks after closing several due to the coronavirus.

Starting May 4, all 66 offices across the state will reopen, but DMV officials will only serve customers by appointment only. Appointments can be made at SCDMVonline.com.

“South Carolinians have been extremely patient during this transitional time, and I am appreciative of the number who completed their transactions online or delayed visiting the SCDMV to keep themselves and our employees healthy,” SCDMV Director Kevin Shwedo said in a statement. “We look forward to returning to full service at the earliest opportunity.”

Most offices across the state will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with the exception of branch locations in Allendale and McCormick. Those offices will open only on Wednesdays.

All offices will be closed, however, on May 11 for Confederate Memorial Day.

DMV officials will continue to practice social distancing due to COVID-19, only allowing so many customers in at a time and requesting that they stay at least six feet apart. Workers at the DMV will only use every other counter.

Non-commercial road tests will continue to be suspended.
