SC DMV reopens offices 5 days a week after closing due to the coronavirus
The Department of Motor Vehicles is opening all offices across South Carolina five days a week except for two locations, the department announced Tuesday.
Though offices in Allendale and McCormick will continue to be open only on Wednesdays, all other offices will be available to serve customers by appointment only every weekday starting this Wednesday, according to an S.C. DMV statement.
Appointments can be scheduled at SCDMVonline.com. Offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Our focus remains to rapidly provide all DMV services without adversely impacting the health of our team and our customers,” S.C. DMV Director Kevin Shwedo said in a statement. “I appreciate your patience as we continue to leverage social distancing until we get back to normal.”
DMV officials are trying to serve walk-up customers when possible, but Shwedo encouraged customers to instead complete any transactions they can online.
Offices across the state will continue to practice social distancing, requiring customers to keep 6 feet between themselves and others, according to the statement. Employees will use every other counter, and offices will be frequently sanitized.
For now, DMV officials are still not performing non-commercial road tests, but leaders are considering several options to get them up and running again. Motorcycle road tests and some commercial driver’s tests are still being administered.
