Steelers QB Big Ben gets cut from barber — and tough words from Pennsylvania governor

Ben Roethlisberger recently got a much-needed haircut from a barber, but it led to some harsh words from the Pennsylvania governor.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback vowed after season-ending elbow surgery last fall he would not shave or cut his hair until he could throw a football again, according to video he and the Steelers shared on Twitter.

That time has come, but due to coronavirus restrictions, it was unfortunate timing for Roethlisberger.

The video cut to a full-bearded Big Ben, who was shown throwing deep balls to teammates. The Steelers players were practicing at a local high school, according to Sports Illustrated.

His milestone led to the celebratory haircut, with a new-look Roethlisberger being shown at the end of the video getting his beard trimmed.

But in Allegheny County, barber shops have not been given the green light to reopen due to safety concerns over the coronavirus.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said he has a “general concern” about Roethlisberger defying orders to go to the barber, according to PennLive.com.

“Anybody who puts himself or herself into harm’s way is something that I think we have to try to avoid,” Wolf said during a news conference Tuesday. “And when you go to something like a barbershop and you’re not protected, I don’t care who you are. The chances of that virus wreaking havoc on your life increases.”

Roethlisberger went to Norman’s Cut N’ Edge in Sewickley, according to TribLive.com. Wolf did not state if the barbershop would receive any penalties for opening for the player/

Neither the Steelers nor Roethlisberger have responded to Wolf’s comments as of Tuesday afternoon.
