More than 1,400 new cases reported

South Carolina reported 1,463 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, according to the state.

At least 44,717 people in South Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus, and 813 have died, according to state health officials.

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control on Sunday reported 1,463 new coronavirus cases.

Officials on Sunday also reported eight additional deaths. Those who died were in Charleston, Dorchester, Greenville, Lancaster, Orangeburg, Spartanburg and Horry counties.

Worldwide, more than 11.3 million cases of the coronavirus and more than 531,000 deaths have been reported, according to Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, more than 2.8 million cases and more than 129,000 deaths have been reported.

Horry County sets new record

State officials on Saturday reported 358 new coronavirus cases in Horry County, setting a new record in the Myrtle Beach area.

The county, which has been linked to outbreaks in other parts of the country as tourists return home, has a reported total of more than 4,300 cases of COVID-19.

Four more deaths were reported in Horry County on Saturday, bringing the total to 53.

The county saw its previous record number of new cases on Friday, with 236, The Sun News reported.
